1.) The poem is called The Laughing Heart by Charles Bukowski.
2.) The irony that I see in using this strong poem is that companies like Levi don't really understand the meaning of such a deep poem, they just want you to buy their product. This poem speaks to the part of put minds that wrestles with the meaning of life, or even struggles with sadness, depression or anger. It also challenges you though and helps you keep fighting "There is light somewhere. It may not be much light but it beats out the darkness".
3.) By looking at his website I think the poem reflects the author in that he did face a lot of depression and sadness through being an alcoholic and he also had quite the life and when had the chance to finally start writing all the time he took it.
